Iconic Vegas sign goes solar

las-vegasOn January 9, the iconic ‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas’ sign, which has been a landmark seen by visitors entering the popular city for decades, has gone solar.

Congresswoman Dina Titus released a statement today saying, “By converting this legendary sign to solar power, Southern Nevada is further demonstrating our commitment to a sustainable future. As we continue to advance clean energy initiatives, I look forward to discovering new ways renewable energy can benefit our economy, environment, and community.”

Sen. Harry Reid was also very supportive of the measures taken by clean energy advocates and the Clark County Commission to make the launch of the solar-powered sign a reality.

“The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign has always represented the essence of Las Vegas and today that includes clean energy just as much as being one of the world’s preeminent tourist destinations,” said Reid. “There’s no better place to harness the power of the sun than where the sun shines nearly every day of the year. I remain committed to creating jobs by continuing to grow our clean energy economy in Nevada…”

News about the solar-powered sign was reported throughout the world on Thursday, some referring to it as ‘The sign of the times.’

Stay tuned as there will be more calls in other states for an equal billing in turning to solar energy for various landmarks.
